Goals and Actions for 2015

PRIORITY ONE – MISSION AND RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

We will enhance the experience for the community of a welcoming church where prayer life is more accessible for our community.

  • We will seek ways of building partnerships in the parish as we amalgamate with the Ipswich, North Ipswich and Rosewood Parishes

We will prioritise a cohesive and integrated approach for the spiritual formation and professional learning of staff in Religious Education and Theology.

  • We will continue to deepen and broaden the understanding of Catholic prayers and rituals as outlined in the Religious Education Curriculum. We have already explored the Amen, Sign of the Cross and the Hail Mary and have had PL a number of times on meditative practices. Our next step is to further explore The Lord’s Prayer and its Jewish origins. This will link into the world beliefs part of the curriculum.
  • For staff prayer after school on Wednesdays in 2015, we will build our prayer community by sharing the Lenten program, completing the program “Mysteries of the Church” and we will engage with Professional Learning by Fr Robert Barron – Priest, Prophet, King. This session will be actively promoted through the bulletin.
  • We will offer RE PL and/or staff retreat options to staff four times during the year involving outside speakers and inviting other school staffs to attend eg: Caritas speakers.

We will build our authentic Christian community which is called to be a real and living expression of the church's pastoral mission in the world.

  • As part of our focus on KidsMatter Component 3 (Working with Parents and Carers) we will have a long day retreat focusing on the content of the professional learning for the component and also tying this in with Gospel references and learnings.
  • We will, as a staff, explore together the implications of our professional learning about KidsMatter Component 3 (Working with Parents and Carers) in looking together at the draft policy – Immaculate Heart Catholic Primary School, Family School Partnerships Policy.

PRIORITY TWO – LEARNING AND TEACHING

We will build our whole school knowledge and understandings in Social Emotional Learning and Behaviour and build a common language and pedagogy.

  • KidsMatter Component Three will be our focus for 2015 in exploring Social and Emotional Learning. This component focuses on building community and working with our families.
  • We will establish a SEL Committee which will focus on building upon the work of KidsMatter Component 3 in terms 1 and 4 (plans in place for the year) and also promoting more use of the Bounce Back Program in Term 2 and 3.

By the end of 2015 our students will understand what they are learning, the success criteria for what they are going to achieve and where they will go next and can interpret assessment results and act on this understanding.

  • We will provide multiple opportunities for the staff to explore, understand, discuss and work with the BCE Model of Pedagogy.
  • Perform post data collection from walkthroughs focussing on the three key questions: What are you doing? Why are you learning this? What will you be doing next?

Our students and staff will be able to receive and give effective and regular feedback and use it to reflect on achievements and to create further learning goals.

  • Teachers learn about the different levels and contexts for effective feedback through PL provided by the VL+ Team.
  • Promote positive environments in which teachers can invite and receive feedback.
  • We will develop more refined systems for providing feedback to students. This will be reviewed in reference to the design of and use of assessment pieces. This will be done in collaboration with the STIE, APRE and CST.

We will consistently and comprehensively engage with the Australian Curriculum, in planning and in learning and teaching and maintain a growth mindset.

We will review our data collection schedule on a regular basis to ensure that it is positively impacting on our planning, teaching and learning.

  •  The new staff induction process will be updated to include the reviewed testing and data schedule, tracking processes and student portfolio requirements. Support will be given for test implementation and interpretation/synthesis of data.

PRIORITY THREE – PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE AND COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS

We will work towards being a community of professional learners where we feel comfortable and get positive learning from being a critical friend for our peers and where peer feedback is valued and used to grow as professional educators.

  • We will promote and reinforce our development as a community of learners, building collegiality in the staffroom and will begin providing PL in areas of coaching and peer tutoring for key staff.
  • In 2015 we will build upon our repertoire for Visible Learning, particularly: giving and receiving feedback, setting success criteria and learning intentions.

We will use the new Sparrow system online to record Whole School Goals and their aligned strategies and actions.

We will further align the use of language, terminology and pedagogy across the school so that we provide an optimal learning environment for our students.

We will strengthen and make explicit how our relationships and partnerships work successfully at Immaculate Heart.

  • We will develop a Family School Partnerships Policy.
  • We will, as a staff, explore together the implications of our professional learning about KidsMatter Component 3 (Working with Parents and Carers) in looking together at the draft policy – Immaculate Heart Catholic Primary School, Family School Partnerships Policy. We will also have discussions with the parent body at Board and P and F about the draft policy and make adjustments in line with suggestions.
  • We will use our learnings from KidsMatter Component 3 (Working with Parents and Carers)to expand our strategies for building community engagement.

PRIORITY FOUR – STRATEGIC RESOURCING

We will use Draft One of the Education Brief to direct and guide our facilities planning and applications and decision making in the school in an explicit and referenced way.

  • Provide PL for the staff around the Model of Pedagogy.
  • Review the Education Brief document in light of the Year 7 to Secondary move and other impacting factors.

We will review and structure our 5 year plan for ICLT in order to cater for the growing need for technology across learning and teaching areas and also for administration purposes.

  • Perform regular reviews of the plan in light of technological developments, changes in available learning experiences and our developing and growing knowledge about rich use of ICLTs. We will also communicate these changes on an ongoing basis to relevant stakeholders.

We will complete our yearly review of components as part of our five yearly schedule of School Review.

  • Completion of Component Reviews 1.2, 2.5, 3.2 and 4.4.

Student First Support

  • In 2015 we will build our repetoire for giving and receiving feedback, setting success criteria and learning intentions.

We will review our Education Brief to update the information and to align our plans with current enrolment projections and pedagogical change.

  • We will review and update our Education Brief using advice and input from the School Board, P and F and staff.
